2017 countdown begins

Napier, August 10, 2017: DXers and contesters around the globe are eagerly anticipating the next Oceania DX Contest at the start of October, just two months away.

Oceania DX is a unique event on the DX contest calendar with a strong reputation among DXers, IOTA hunters and contesters alike.  Early in October every year, the HF bands come alive to the tune of  “CQ Oceania”.  The Oceania DX contest takes place on the first two full weekends of October.

This year's dates are 7-8 October (phone) and 14-15 October (CW).  The two events are scored separately.  Both are 24 hours long, starting at 08:00z.

The rules are at www.OceaniaDXcontest.com/Rules/rules.html

Plenty of Pacific stations will be on the air again this year, eagerly hunting for DX contacts. Local and visiting hams often time their Pacific holidays to coincide with the contest weekends.

Visit the contest website at www.OceaniaDXcontest.com for more information including previous results, soapbox comments and records.  There are fabulous trophies and plaques on offer for keen competitors, certificates for the winners from each country and continent, and virtually all participants qualify for a certificate. Even modest stations have opportunities to bag some exotic Pacific DX due to high activity levels.

About the contest: the Oceania DX Contest (http://www.OceaniaDXcontest.com) has been running since the 1930s. Participation is strong and still growing thanks to promotion by the joint Australian and New Zealand contest committee.  Despite poor conditions, just under 1,200 logs were received for the 2016 event.  Entries from Oceania increased by 17% over 2015, with participation across the region including 9M6, A35, DU, KH0, KH6, V85, VK, VK9, YB and ZL. Several new records were set in 2016.
